Constitution Review
We are required, as an incorporated Society, to update our constitution. The Constitution governs the operation and management of the Whiritoa Lifeguard Service (WLS). The current Constitution was written based on the 1908 Incorporated Society Act. The new Incorporated Society Act 2022 is a modern piece of legislation, long overdue. We have from October 2023 to April 2026 to update our Constitution in line with the new Act, which also requires re-registration of the WLS.
The reason we are doing this is to comply with the new law around Incorporated Societies. The updates primarily address changes related to employment, health and safety, privacy rules and the Committee and its Members. The draft constitution incorporates language directly aligned with the new Act to ensure compliance. It also includes enhanced requirements reflecting modern governance standards.
A sub-committee has been working on this document with assistance of SLSNZ, Club Committee involvement and other advisors since the motion was passed at the 2024 AGM, refining the document. The document is now being presented to all members to review.
If you have comments or feedback you would like to provide back to the Constitution Sub-Committee, please complete the form below and press submit. If there are multiple clauses you wish to provide feedback on, please submit a separate response for each clause. You may submit as many responses as you feel is appropriate and each will be reviewed by the Constitution Sub-Committee.

Your feedback will be reviewed and considered as part of the process to refine and finalise the constitution. By submitting your comments, you agree to provide constructive input and understand that while all feedback will be taken into account, not all suggestions may be incorporated into the final document.
